What Is the Purpose of the Fabric Strip Across Hotel Beds?
If you have ever stayed in a hotel, you may have noticed a long piece of fabric placed across the bottom of the bed. It is usually darker than the sheets and is sometimes called a bed runner.
At first, many hotel guests wonder why this piece of fabric is there. Is it simply for decoration, or does it have a practical purpose?
1. It Protects the Bedding
One of the main purposes of the bed runner is to protect the clean sheets and blankets.
Hotel guests may sit on the edge of the bed while taking off their shoes, placing luggage nearby, or getting ready for the night. Shoes, bags, and other objects can bring dirt onto the bed.
The bed runner provides an extra layer of protection, helping keep the main bedding cleaner.
2. It Provides a Place for Personal Items
The runner can also be useful when guests want to place personal belongings on the bed.
For example, someone may put a handbag, jacket, phone, or other items near the foot of the bed. Instead of placing these objects directly on the clean sheets, guests can use the runner.
